Hi

My name is Shana and I have a question concerning removing stubborn spots. I am African American and I wore glasses for about 2 years, and I stopped wearing them when I was in the 6th grade. I am now 23 years old, and I have these dark marks on both sides of my nose and I can't get rid of them. I have tried Black & White Ointment, and Palmer's Skin Success, but they have only irritated my nose and hasn't helped at all. I'm not sure what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The first thing to try to determine is whether the dark spots are actually the result of wearing glasses over 10 years ago or if there may be other possible causes. Many people are plagued by dark circles around the eyes, not only under the eyes but also above the eyes and around the bridge of the nose. It is possible, at least from your description, to guess that the dark spots are more related to this than to wearing glasses.

Some of the more common reasons for dark circles include lack of sleep, heredity, smoking, pregnancy, hormonal changes, too much caffeine, and allergies or chronic nasal blockage. Like smoke, other environmental pollutants or even skin products could potentially irritate the eyes and create circles.

Of course, the best course of action is to determine the main cause and to try and eliminate or minimize it. Dietary changes that include decreasing or eliminating wheat products, dairy products, or any other potential food allergies or sensitivities may be very helpful. Increasing the amount of purified or distilled water that you drink will like offer some improvement. I would also suggest using only natural/organic products on your face. Most makeups, soaps, creams, and other face products contain chemicals that can potentially cause eye irritation and inflammation.

In addition to reducing potential allergens and irritants, you may also want to consider performing a colon cleanse, liver/gallbladder flush, and a parasite cleanse. The colon cleanse and liver/gallbladder flush can aid in the removal of toxins from the body; many practitioners believe that dark circles may be an indication of liver toxicity. It is also possible that toxins produced by various types of parasites may contribute.

I encourage to visit with a practitioner that is well-versed in natural medicine, such as a naturopath or chiropractor, in order to evaluate how likely some of these possibilities are in your individual case. They can also perform blood tests and allergy tests as well as a physical exam and history in order to give you more detailed information.
